Not much is known about a painter named McCaine.  Most of his work appears to have been created in the late 60's to early 70's.  He was very prolific and may have been a staff artist with Aaron Brothers - though they have no further records on him.

His paintings are very colorful, whimsical, and timeless scenes.  Often available for the budget-minded art collector, they should be bought because you appreciate the work, not for investment, unless you are looking for only a small return.

This is the second McCaine I've purchased.  Very simple and pleasing.

This is the first McCaine I've bought.  A beach scene and very monochromatic - which many of his paintings were of that type.

  2. I found this same canvas painting of the barn many years ago and I was struck by the bold use of color and I loved the lopsided barn and rambling fences. I fell in love with it and it has traveled with me to every home I've had since then.

I'd always assumed it was painted by an amateur painter from the 70s and dumped at a thrift store later on.

Last night at dinner a friend mentioned the signature and we decided to look it up. I had no idea McCaine was a prolific artist!

I find our painting to be very similar to the one posted above with only a few differences, mainly the color palette. My painting has much more gold than blue and warmer colors all together. The style seems unmistakably his though, along with the signature.

Do you know if it was his practice to do multiple paintings of the same subject? Or perhaps ours is a study for this piece? What do you think?

    Any info would be great!

  4. My parents have recently just gifted me the penny candy painting. It’s been hanging up in their gone for as long as I could remember. I have always loved it for its simplicity and whimsical nature….as I am a candy lover myself! I was googling it to see what I could find about this artist! :)
